My favorite movie and India’s biggest blockbuster

Baahubali is an Indian film consisting of two epic fantasy films directed by S.S. Rajamouli. The first part, subtitled ‘The Beginning’ and the second part, subtitled ‘The Conclusion’. Baahubali translates into English as ‘The one with strong arms’. This film is the biggest blockbuster in the Indian cinema and also got international acclaim. The film critic Mike McCahill pointed out that, “It’s also the Indian film industry flexing its muscles and saying – Look at what we can do on a fraction of the budget of a Fast and Furious or a Guardians of the Galaxy”. On the  BBC website, Sudha G Tilak said the movie has “successfully married the traditional Indian film template with state-of-the-art special effects”. It broke USA box office records by setting elevated standards for Indian movies in overseas markets. It was listed by Rentrak, the box office reporting tool, as one of the top-ten grosser of this week among theatrical releases.

It’s a tale of two cousins in the Kingdom of Mahishmati, India. Ballaladeva fights his way with cousin Baahubali for the throne. Young Shivudu grows in the tribes and travels to the distant lands above the waterfalls to fall in love with the beautiful Avantika, the tribal warrior and helps in her quest to rescue Devasena a prisoner from the claws of King Ballaladeva. In this pursuit, he finds out that the legendary King Baahubali is his father and Devasena the prisoner is his mother from the slave commander in chief Katappa of King Ballaladeva. Katappa narrates to Shivudu about the legends of his father Baahubali and the epic battle by the brothers Ballaladeva and Baahubali against the cruel king who attacks the Mahishmati Kingdom, in this battle Baahubali is crowned as the king by Sivagami as she thinks he is worthier to the throne. This strengthen Ballaladeva’s hatred towards his brother king Baahubali. Shiva, the son of Baahubali, begins to search for answers after he learns about his heritage.

The VFX effects used in this movie is a rollercoaster ride. It takes you inside the Mahishmati kingdom and indulges one into the movie. Latest technological advancements have been used in making this epic movie which can be easily noticed by the sheer scale of the background settings.
